            Measuring similarity native ChessBase engines

 

While it's impossible native ChessBase engines to run under similarity tester (SIM03) I like to present a detour.

 

What you need is a special version of Protools. Unzip the archive preferable in C:\PROTOOLS in order that the distributed shortcut will properly initialize the DOS screen. Then run the program from the file manager clicking on the ProDeo.pif shortcut.

 

Quick guide

 

1. Press F4, select and run "SIM03 Chessbase"

2. Start Fritz and create a new CBH database

3. Import simul.pgn into the new CBH database

4. Run "Process test set" at 0 or 1 second

5. Watch the similarity percentage on the screen

 

That's it.

 

Pre-installed in the download are the CBH databases (including the produced SIM03 moves) of RobboLito 0.09 | Rybka 1.0 Beta | Rybka 2.3.2a | Rybka 3 and Fruit 2.1 so in principle you can skip step 1-3 and immediately start "Process test set".

 

 

Inner workings

 

1. The base of similarity tester are the 8238 positions stored in (funny enough) Rebel's RBM format 
    and they are collected in SIM03.RBM as the base for every conversion to CBH.
  

2. RESULTS.TXT must contain the 8238 moves from an engine tested with SIM03. Copy+Paste the
    8238 moves from similariry.data into results.txt
 

3. Run "Protools", it will create "simul.pgn" combining "sim03.rbm" with "results.txt" and import 
    simul.pgn into a new CBH database. As such you can compare any UCI | Winboard chess 
    engine with native ChessBase engines.
